Malecon Reserva Superior Aged 12 Years is the classic from the house of Malecon and so versatile in its usability as hardly any other rum. The rum, distilled in Panama according to Cuban methods, matured for at least 12 years in former bourbon barrels and was then carefully composed by the master blender. The 12 years of aging are clearly noticeable on the palate and have completely taken away the spiciness of the rum. Nevertheless, the rum still has a certain youthful freshness, which makes it the perfect base for a Panama Mule with Ginger Beer or as a premium Cuba Libre. For cocktails with intensely sweet and spicy ginger beer, we need a rum that can counter the filler in terms of both aromas and peppiness.
On the nose, Malecon Reserva Superior Aged 12 Years charms with a fresh vanilla note, a hint of fruit and a light spice. On the palate, a fine sweetness with pleasant oak notes then unfolds. The fruit, vanilla notes and spice are also found again now, indicating where the journey is headed as it ages. On the finish, the youthful pepperiness and a remarkable freshness are found.
