A palate pleaser of the first order with a warm, golden amber color. Still a real insider tip in the rum industry.
Malecon Reserva Superior Aged 15 Years is the rum which one should not underestimate. The long 15 years of maturation in former bourbon barrels have taken all the sharpness of the rum and conjured up a real palate pleaser. A real insider tip – and not only among experts.
The art of aging is not only to let a rum lie in barrels as long as possible. This could sometimes be quite difficult, because in contrast to the maturation in many European countries, Panama has quite different temperatures. The proportion of rum that simply evaporates from the barrels during the year is therefore many times higher. A rum thus matures 3-4 times as fast as a Scotch whisky, but also loses liquid in the barrel correspondingly quickly. To ensure that the barrels are not almost empty after 15 years, the distillery’s master blender must empty the barrels of a vintage into a large tank at regular intervals and blend them. Then the rum is filled back into the barrels and can continue to mature in peace, well filled. This guarantees a consistently high and equal quality of the vintages. In the Malecon Reserva Superior Aged 15 Years, this difference is already apparent in the nose. Wonderfully mild, fruity and spicy. The typical vanilla notes of oak barrel aging are also wonderfully woven in. A fine, natural sweetness then develops on the palate, which never dominates and is accentuated by the vanilla notes. Truly spectacular is the fruit note, which is quite typical of Rum Malecon at an advanced age. Aromas of dried apricots, a touch of exoticism, caramel notes and the whole accompanied by a pleasant spiciness. A real palate pleaser.
This rum is best enjoyed at room temperature in a glass swizzle or nosing glass.
